Veteran rowing at ACRC

The Club has an active veteran section, catering for all abilities from complete beginners to experienced oarsmen.  Our rowers are mostly in their 40s to 60s.

Men

Rowing is predominantly in fours and eights, but smaller boats are also readily available. For those who wish to compete, crews are entered in a variety of heads and regattas around this region and also the Tideway veteran events.

We have outings every Sunday throughout the year at 8.30 a.m. (or 10.00 a.m. for beginners).  In the summer, we have an additional evening outing, usually on Wednesdays at 6.30 p.m.  The Club nights are Tuesday and Thursday and you could also row then.  In winter, the Club has a Wednesday night gym training session which is quite suitable for veterans.

Women

In Autumn 2003 we started a small group of veteran women.  Most are novices ( and mums of the juniors ) but we also have some more experienced rowers, and the services of two of the club’s coaches.

Outings are in quads and the octuple for the novice vets, but sweep oar is on the agenda.  We try to put in a crew for the Veteran VIIIs Head in March and a quad for the Veteran IVs Head in November and also compete in local races.

Winter outings are 10.00 on Sunday mornings.  Summer evening outings will probably be timed to coincide with the juniors ie Tuesday or Thursday.

You don’t have to be a novice or a mum to join us – all enthusiastic females aged 27 or more are very welcome!
