About the club

Avon County Rowing Club is located in Saltford, about half-way between Bath and Bristol. We row on the River Avon, where we have about four kilometres of quiet water, including a straight of about 1,250 metres.

Avon County Rowing Club was formed in 1973, following a merger of the former Avon and Bristol clubs. This ended a tradition of friendly rivalry, stretching back to the previous century, between oarsmen training in the colours of a succession of clubs based at Saltford.

We have close links with the local community through the Project Oarsome scheme as well as with the local media.

The club is run by its members and relies on them for the upkeep of its site, including the maintenence of its premises.

We attend many races throughout the year at both domestic and international events including:

  • The Pairs Head of the River
  • The Fours Head of the River
  • Women's and Men's Eights Head of the River
  • G(h)ent International Regatta (Belgium)
  • Henley Women's Regatta
  • Henley Royal Regatta
  • British Rowing Championships
