National Championships 2008
The National Championships were held in Nottingham last weekend. Despite the wind threatening to blow our tents away, racing was completed on all three days - the stiff headwind meaning that times were alot slower than usual!
The club had crews in several events.
Gabriel and Scott raced on Friday in the J15 double sculls. As there were 25 entries in this event, the first 'round' was a time trial over 1500m. The boys did really well to get through this and into the semi final, but unfortunatly they couldn't quite match the speed of the crews who then went through to the final.
Gabbie also had a time trial for her first round and again, qualified for the semi final where she was 5th.
Sophie, Taylor, Katy and Hannah came second in the first round of WJ16 4X to qualify directly for the final where they managed a creditable 4th, just out of the medals.
Hannah also raced with her Welsh crews, coming home with two bronze medals for the coxed four and eight. One of her crew was ill which provided an opportunity for Katy in the eight as she was asked to substitute in - which meant that she also came home with a bronze medal.
Our ex-juniors were also busy - Sean and Billy (racing for City of Bristol) came 4th in O 2-. quite impressive given that they are both only just out of junior! Andy raced in a quad with Reading University but just missed out (less than 1 sec) on a final place.
